You get to pick their brains and ask them questions that you don’t get a chance to online.
We’ve studied the fiqh of mu’āmalāt in classical books, so it’s really nice to have the shuyūkh go through the same concepts, but in modern applications.
It’s great to see the brothers and the mashāyikh learning from the instructors about the deeper consequences of ribā at scale.
A year in
Enrolling in this Islamic Finance Diploma has been genuinely eye-opening; not just academically, but in how I now see the financial system around me. The diploma has shown me just how deeply the conventional system is built on interest, speculation, and value extraction rather than real value creation.
Seminar 2, with Ustadh Tarek El-Diwany on the economics of Ribā, was a particular highlight. His breakdown of how interest actually functions in the wider economy (beyond the fiqh definitions) was some of the clearest content I’ve come across on the subject. It reframed Ribā for me not just as a jurisprudential prohibition, but as something with real, traceable economic consequences.
Beyond the technical material, the biggest shift for me has been mindset: learning to evaluate transactions and wealth through a lens of values and purpose, not just profit and money creation. It’s changed how I think about my own work and finances, not just the subject matter itself.
It really gives you the energy and the excitement to further your understanding, and it motivates you to want to help the ummah.
I’ve met a group of very intelligent, committed people. I think everybody is very fortunate to have that resource at their disposal.
